The Operations Leadership Trainee Program provides individuals with the opportunity to work within our Plant Manufacturing or Distribution Center. Trainees will be mentored on all facets of the business to help them gain insight into the day-to-day operations of a Fortune 100 Company. Depending on the facility, their responsibilities will include the hiring and managing of employees, overseeing production lines and strategizing on measures to increase efficiency. After a successful 12-month training period, they may be promoted to Supervisor role.

We have two distinct Trainee Programs within Corporate Operations:

  1. Operations Leadership Trainee – Supply: Trainees in our Manufacturing Plant Management Team will be involved with the production and quality control of products for Safeway. Their mentor will give them the tools necessary to succeed in this business unit, and those who successfully complete a 6 to 12-month training period will be promoted to Production Supervisor. As Production Supervisor, they will oversee one or more lines in the production of a product and will help drive continuous improvement as part of our World-Class initiatives.
  2. Operations Leadership Trainee – Distribution: Trainees in our Distribution Center Management Team will be involved in the delivery and quality control of products for Safeway. Throughout the program, they will be mentored by a member of the team to help them gain insight into the benchmarks for success in this business unit. After completing a successful 6 to 12-month training period, they will be promoted Warehouse Supervisor. At this position, they will oversee warehouse operations and maintain productivity standards. They will also be responsible for championing 5S processes, reaching on-time delivery goals and providing extraordinary customer service to our retail clients.
